Some of us romanticize the idea of a blind date, until you get down to brass tacks and it might make your stomach turn flips. It has been reported that a great many relationships have started by being set up on blind dates and it has an etiquette all its own. Dating can be awkward, let's try to prevent it from becoming horribly awkward by setting boundaries.
Try planning an activity that will spark conversation and avoid awkward pauses in conversation. Avoid going for coffee though, this type of first date doesn't offer much "duck and cover" for midday conversation. You can also hear other people's conversations possibly adding more pressure to an already self conscience conversation.
We all get nervous on dates but do dominate the entire conversation. When you get nervous get a drink to take a sip to give yourself a natural pause. Ask questions and allow yourself to be "interviewed" as well.
Even if the date felt like you have known each other forever, avoid any temptation to go home with the other person or showing too much affection upon departure. Save some of the good stuff for the next date or you may run the risk of there not being another date.
A first blind date should not be had over drinks. Alcohol lowers inhibitions and we also tend to spill too much information about ourselves. We need to give them something to keep coming back for, anticipation is the sweet fruit of more dates.
The most important rule of blind dates is the just be you. More than likely you have been set up by friends, so anything you over zealously boast about can be checked out, easily!
